Mindfulness - More and more medical doctors are coming out in favour of meditation vs medication.

Image
This booked has been backed up by countless research studies, to show that those who practice mindfulness are less likely to feel depressed, stressed or anxious. Mindfulness is a simple form of mediation that brings your focus to the present moment as opposed to getting lost in thought about the past or future. It’s about switching from “doing” mode which is when you’re in autopilot for example driving your car and your thoughts wonder about other things to “being” mode which is when you’re present in the moment so when you’re driving you can hear yourself breathing, feel your hands on the steering wheel, smell the fresh air through the window and view the scenery around you.  The more you’re able to practise mindfulness you can alter the physical structure within your brain as it develops the insula (insula is the part of the brain for controlling our mental emotions) which helps you develop rational thinking. The better you are at controlling your emotions, the less li...

Blockchain Revolution and My Own Research

Image
What is the Blockchain? Is a chain of blocks and each block contains some data, a hash of this block and the hash of the previous block. However the first block in a Blockchain is called the Genesis block which is the only block that does not hold a hash of the previous block. Data being as simple as user information like your name, weight, height or anything you would like. Hashing is when you input data regardless of the amount which is then put through a hash function which converts the data into an array of numbers and letters, this is called the hash value. Merkle tree is how Bitcoin and Etherum generate the hash value for the block which is when the transactions(each piece of data) in the block hash against each other to eventually get the root hash aka the hash value for the block within the Blockchain, here is a example of a Merkle tree: There are many cryptographic hash functions to hash input data however which ever one is used they must have some qualities...

The Richest Man in Babylon

Image
Before the book begins it starts off with saying: “Money is governed today by the same laws which controlled it when prosperous men thronged the streets of Babylon, SIX THOUSAND YEARS AGO.”  So the question is what are the simple laws to wealth.  Number 1: Learn to live upon less than you earn. No matter what you earn, pay yourself at least one-tenth. You’ll adapt and find that it won’t make a difference to your day to day life.  Number 2: Learn to seek advice from those who are competent through their own experiences to give it. In other words have a range of friends that all have different areas of expertise. This is developing you to become a person of value to the market.  Number 3: Now you have managed to save one-tenth consistently and built up a friends group who specialise in different areas. It’s time to INVEST the money and use the knowledge that has been acquired from your friends and your own studies. Ask yourself, how can I get my ...

The Tipping Point "How little things can make a big difference"

Image
Malcolm Gladwell defines the tipping point for social epidemics as a combination of little things accumulating until reaching a dramatic moment when everything changes all at once. Gladwell's research shows numerous case studies of the tipping point being reached such as: - The children's program Blues Clues. - New York City crime rates. - The book called Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. - Gore Associates multi-million dollar high tech firm. - Lester Wunderland "Secret Gold Box" with Columbia Record Club Account. - The shoe brand Air Walk. - Smoking. - Paul Rever's message to the colonial militia to the approach of British Forces before the battles of Lexington and Concord. - Tom Gau financial planner motor mimicry for persuasion. The two simple questions that Gladwell answers in this book are: 1. Why is it that some ideas or behaviours or products start epidemics and others don't? 2. What can we do to deliberately to start and control...

Jensen Button

Image
The story of Jensen Button is truly captivating as shows his struggles on and off the racing track from his early childhood all the way up to the end of his racing career in Formula One. Despite the book does not cover his life to the finer details of the setbacks and progressions Jensen experienced , it is still an  interesting read.  John Button the father of Jensen was heavily into racing and was sitting on a fountain of knowledge to share with his son. John always encouraged Jensen to just enjoy himself and focus on his own performance throughout his whole career, knowing that the more you do that, the better you will perform.  On Jensen 7th birthday his father brought him a Yamaha 50cc bike and he loved it from the first second, after riding for one day he was already asking his dad to take off the speed restriction. When his father took of the 20 mph restriction, the bike was able to shift to 30 mph, Jensen throttled the bike straight away and came flying...
