Mindfulness - More and more medical doctors are coming out in favour of meditation vs medication.
This booked has been backed up by countless research studies, to show that those who practice mindfulness are less likely to feel depressed, stressed or anxious. Mindfulness is a simple form of mediation that brings your focus to the present moment as opposed to getting lost in thought about the past or future. It’s about switching from “doing” mode which is when you’re in autopilot for example driving your car and your thoughts wonder about other things to “being” mode which is when you’re present in the moment so when you’re driving you can hear yourself breathing, feel your hands on the steering wheel, smell the fresh air through the window and view the scenery around you.
The more you’re able to practise mindfulness you can alter the physical structure within your brain as it develops the insula (insula is the part of the brain for controlling our mental emotions) which helps you develop rational thinking. The better you are at controlling your emotions, the less likely you are to overthink and overthinking is a major cause to depression and anxiety.
Meditation vs Medication Studies -
professor Kees van Heeringens found:
Depressed people who fully engaged in mindfulness meditation program outperformed those people who took antidepressants meditation. Antidepressants not only over promise and under deliver, but their use may permanently disable the body’s self-healing potential. We need a new paradigm: the best way to heal the mind is to heal the whole body.
